Hormone Supporting Slice

Want to have your cake (or slice) and eat it too? Try out this delicious, easy and nutritious slice which contains all the ingredients to support hormone balance.

Brazil nuts are a good source of selenium which is a nutrient involved in regulating the function of the thyroid. The thyroid is like the master gland within our body, it helps to control our hormone profile, metabolism, mood and much more. Imbalances with our thyroid can cause symptoms of chronic fatigue, hair loss, menstrual irregularities and weight loss or gain.

Flaxseeds contain a group of phytochemicals called lignans which have been shown to have weak oestrogenic and antiestrogenic properties. Studies have indicated that flaxseed consumption can support progesterone to oestradiol ratios which has been linked with regulating menstrual cycles and reducing risk of hormonally dependent health conditions.

Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc which is a mineral involved in hundreds of different enzymatic reactions within the body, zinc has been shown to play important roles in ovulation and hormone regulation.

Coconut provides a great source of healthy fats which are the building blocks for our hormones. Without enough healthy fats within the diet it can impact how and the amount of hormones that are created within the body.

Fresh dates provide a great source of fibre, antioxidants and carbohydrates. Dates can support energy production. Interestingly, studies have also implicated dates in supporting regulation of hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone. I always select fresh over dried dates as dried fruits contain a higher sugar content.

If you choose to melt dark chocolate on top like I did, I recommend 70%-85%, my favourite is loving earth. Dark chocolate provides a wonderful source of magnesium which is a mineral beneficial for supporting mood and muscle relaxation.
